Me: *seeing Jim and helicopter* HE LIIIIIIIVES.
Me: *listens to Moffat say ‘he’s dead’* LIIIIIAAARRRR.
Me: *watches S4 trailer and Jim officially back* Hmmmm.
Me: *listens to Moffat say ‘he’s dead’ right after trailer* hmmmm.
Me: *starts to believe Jim really is dead*
Because srsly, why else continue to adamantly say ‘he’s dead’ right after showing that he obviously isn’t, unless it’s flashback or whatever. Saying ‘he’s dead’ and showing him alive and then going HA HA I LIED in January…that has no impact. In this case, telling the truth all this time has the shock factor.
But then again, if Moriarty was just a name, and Jim’s been someone else all along, then he can still be alive. I don’t mean a twin, I don’t think they’ll do that. But…yeah, fuck it, I don’t know and speculating is making me crazy. If nothing else, there’s at least one scene with Andrew and I’ll take that all day long. :D
(And now I’ve written that, I remember everything I’ve already written about undercutting your characters and Making Narrative Sense, and start to believe he’s alive again, omg to hell with this, wake me up in January.)
I have been thinking it over and over since the setlock we got with Moriarty coming back so obviously. There is only one idea I can come up with, that makes sense to me (because using his dead character for 4 years without reason doesn’t make sense and it is pretty much er… silly if they did that, noah fence):
In the first two episodes and the half part of the third, we will be forced to believe that Moriarty is dead and the plane scene was just an MP or something like that. We will be led to believe that the Big Villain is someone else *cough Mycroft cough*. The scheme with the “Did You Miss Me?” video will be undeniably proven to be the work of some other character. (And it will truly be.)
The real Jim Moriarty will return in the end of S4, when everyone (characters and fans) will be off guard, suspecting everyone else but him, he will give (once again) the cliffhanger and he will be the main and last villain of the show in S5.
I have been speculating (headcanoning) this since TAB and the trailer actually underpinned it for me. I might be wrong of course, but if Mycroft, Sherlock’s effing brother, was the big baddie, why on earth imply it on the “First Look teaser”…
Anyway, this is what makes sense to me.
This please.
YESSSSSS. Now this makes sense, and I’m going to take it as headcanon, if you don’t mind.
I’ve been saying for ages there’s no way Jim can be dead, because he’s never actually left the show. I wrote a post about how that makes no narrative sense, especially when added to Moftiss’s comments about how they’ve known what they were going to do with Moriarty since S1. Plus..Sherlock’s archenemy is, and always has been, James Moriarty. It’s only right that they close the show with it coming down to the two of them. Anything else would be weird.
THANK YOU. Faith restored. *relief* <3
@jamlocked I’m happy I made you feel better ♡ I believe EXACTLY the same. It’s literally impossible for Moriarty to be dead. He’s been in every goddamn episode after TGG, except for TSOT, where the villain was a guy who changed identities and dated women to reach his victim (a “close” friend of John Watson’s and a mirror for Sherlock). Jonathan Small is definitely a mirror for Moriarty. So basically Moriarty has appeared or been implied or mentioned IN. EVERY. SINGLE. EPISODE. And let’s be serious, if I were Andrew Scott and Moftiss dragged me to at least 4 episodes for no reason, just to be an illusion or lick a gun, well after a point I’d be “screw it”. I know Andrew is a very nice person, but seriously? Then it’s also Moftiss. They are extremely clever people. By drawing the attention back to Moriarty constantly (for years), they subtract villainous points from all their other baddies. Is this beneficial for the show if we assume that Moriarty is dead? NO. Think about it. Even in HLV, where Mary and Magnussen serve as villains, the most breathtaking scene (Sherlock close to death and then coming back) and the cliffhanger belong AGAIN TO MORIARTY. It’s always Moriarty. Always. Last but not least, in TAB Sherlock accepted Moriarty as his equal. Moriarty haunts Sherlock ’s mind, his sanity, his emotions and…uh…more 😘. If this villain is the one that left such a deep scar on the protagonist, then this villain is the one who is supposed to leave the deepest scar on the show and the fans as well. Jim Moriarty is alive, otherwise nothing makes sense. Honestly.
THIS. THANK YOU.
